In this role, you will: 
  • Keep current in the latest biobanking technologies, develop new methods and protocols, and establish service standards that can improve and optimize biobanking operations
  • Guarantee client satisfaction by providing exceptional service through a consistent customer centric approach, a focus on precision delivery, and flexibility to meet customer expectations
  • Acquire new business through the promotion of facility offerings and services and development of robust sponsor networking
  • Continuously evaluate Biobank operations and utilization to optimize the functionality and growth of the facility and to improve productivity, service, quality, and financial health
  • Collate and report specimen management related metrics to support forecasting and decision-making, and propose strategies for improvement using these metrics
  • Perform contingency planning to ensure the Biobank can continue to operate or safely shut down during unexpected events and conditions
  • Maintain and coordinate the cold storage units and environmental monitoring systems and processes
  • Participates in rotating schedule for “on call” environmental monitoring and response outside of regular hours
  • Maintain general working knowledge of and compliance with CAP, FDA, NYSDOH, GCP, ICH and other pertinent regulations, as pertains to central laboratory functions
  • Maintain NYS license for non-transplant anatomic bank operation
  • Apply and maintain College of American Pathologist Biorepository Accreditation
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of SOPs
  • Resolve specimen management related issues and queries
  • Maintain Biobank quality assurance through audits, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Supervise Biobank staff to ensure that the services provided are of high quality and are delivered efficiently.
  • Serve as a role model and manage staff to create a collaborative research environment
  • Ensure quality driven training is provided to all staff, monitor proficiency, and perform yearly competency for all assigned staff
  • Evaluate overall staffing levels; manage hiring and termination processes
We require: 
  • Bachelors degree in biology, biochemistry, pathology, cell biology or related
  • scientific discipline; Masters degree preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years progressive experience working in a biospecimen
  • procurement environment
  • IATA training
  • Advanced experience in using specimen inventory tracking databases and LIMS.
  • Advanced understanding in specimen collection, processing, shipping, storage
  • and annotation
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word
  • and Visio) is also required.
  • Critical reasoning/problem solving skills to identify and resolve complex
  • problems.
  • Experience supervising others and demonstrated leadership and motivational
  • capabilities.

Starting Salary: Up to $120,000 per year commensurate with experience and education.
